MCAS prepares for kindergarten and preschool registration

MICHIGAN CITY — Kindergarten and preschool registration for the 2012-2013 school year for Michigan City Area Schools is 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29.
Kindergarten students must by age 5 by Aug. 1. Pre-K students must be age 3 by Aug. 1. The kindergarten and pre-kindergarten roundup is held at all MCAS elementary buildings. Enrollment should be completed at the school that serves the area in which the student lives.
Schools open for enrollment are:
• Coolspring Elementary at 9121 W. 300 North
• Edgewood Elementary at 502 Boyd Circle
• Joy Elementary at 1600 E. Coolspring Ave.
• Knapp Elementary at 321 Bolka Ave.
• Lake Hills Elementary at 201 Ferguson Road
• Marsh Elementary at 401 E Homer St.
• Niemann Elementary at 811 Royal Road
• Pine Elementary at 1660 County Line Road
• Springfield Elementary at 3054 W. 800 North
To determine which school a child should attend, contact the MCAS Transportation Department at (219) 873-2127. Because of space limitations at Joy Elementary, prekindergarten students who register there will attend school at Pine Elementary.
Parents should bring the following information: the child’s official birth certificate from the state Board of Health; an updated record of the child’s immunizations; the parent/guardian’s driver’s license or state photo ID; emergency contact information; proof of residency (a utility bill, lease agreement on business letterhead, public assistance documentation, etc.). If the child is not living with both parents, or if the child is living with a guardian, a copy of court-issued custodial papers must be presented.
