Every once in a while, when Heather Riggs is visiting her father in Alaska, all the hairs on her arms stand up.

Naturally, a person might expect to feel chilled in Alaska, but her upright hairs are not generated by cold. Rather, every once in a while, in the place where her father now works, someone sees an apparition, or a young woman will feel someone tapping on her barrettes yet when she turns to look, she doesn’t see anything.

Yes, people feel cold spots in the area, doors open and close for no apparent reason and Heather once saw a rug roll up, but saw no one there to do the rolling.

For these reasons and others, Heather, her dad, her father’s wife and Heather’s two sisters, Michelle Sheets and Dawn Gieser, both of Michigan City, will appear on a program called, “The Dead Files,” in an episode called “Arctic Wrath” at 9 p.m. (central time) Friday on the Travel Channel on cable television.

Heather’s father, William Glanz, a 20-year-veteran, retired from the Michigan City Fire Department.

Glanz, who always loved hunting and fishing and the outdoors, according to his daughter, after his retirement, took a caretaker job at a resort called the Hot Springs Hotel in the town of Central, Alaska.

Another uncanny bit of information: The hot springs are natural in the area of this Alaskan resort. The resort, however, is closed to the public.

Graduated from Michigan City High School in 1997, Heather is married to John Riggs. She is now employed by Fagen Pharmacy.

She said the family was flown to Alaska by a company called Painless Productions for the filming of the show in April.

Heather is reluctant to discuss her own suspicions about the mysterious events in Alaska, but says more information and perhaps a few guesses as well will be revealed in the show.

That’s at 9 p.m. Friday on the Travel Channel.
