LAPORTE -- Leigh Morris is now chairman of the LaPorte County Republican Party.

Morris, 78, replaced Keith Harris, of Michigan City, who chose not to seek another four-year term.

Morris said among his goals is to revive a party that suffered many defeats in the November election by recruiting qualified candidates.

"I'm pleased to have an opportunity to serve in this role," Morris said.

Morris was LaPorte mayor from 2004 to 2007 and currently is chairman of the Regional Development Authority for Lake and Porter counties.

He also was president and CEO of LaPorte Hospital for more than 20 years, until 1999.

Leigh Morris and my late father were Delta Chi fraternity brothers back in their college days in the 60's at Ball St. University in Muncie. Leigh was actually the Delta Chi president and pledged my dad into the fraternity.
And Morris is out already.
