MICHIGAN CITY — This city ranks 28th in population statewide but fourth in people occupying vacation rentals through a website used to advertise and find such lodging.

The emphasis placed on tourism here the past several years and heavier promoting of assets like the lakefront and Blue Chip Casino are believed to be major reasons for the ranking.

"That's really what's behind it," said Jack Arnett, executive director of the LaPorte County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The rankings were done by Airbnb.com, a popular website used to advertise and find vacation rentals.
