MICHIGAN CITY — A man charged in connection with the July 18 motor vehicle death of a 5-year old Michigan City girl is out on bail.

Marcus Scully, a 34-year-old Trail Creek resident, was released last week from the LaPorte County Jail after his father posted $15,000 cash bond on his behalf, according to the clerk's office at LaPorte Superior Court 1.

His father, Wesley Scully, is a minister and former president of the LaPorte County/Michigan City branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Scully is charged with fleeing the scene of an accident resulting in death, a felony punishable by one to six years in prison.

He is accused of striking Delaney Klewer with the SUV he was driving in the 300 block of Broadway Street and never stopping.

He turned himself in two days later. Police said Scully told them Delaney darted out in front of him and he panicked after seeing her lying in the street in his mirror.
