MICHIGAN CITY — The 12-year-old girl attacked by a 140-pound bull mastiff Friday morning is recovering, according to police.

Winter Morgan has undergone three surgeries and is expected to undergo a fourth this week, according to a press release from Michigan City Police Sgt. Chris Yagelski.

She is still at Riley's Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.

The girl was attacked about 7:40 a.m. Friday at the Dunewood Trailer Park on U.S. 212. She managed to get away from the dog and run into a mobile home, but the dog followed her and continued to attack her until officer Scott Combs pulled the dog off of her and locked him in a room. The officer then treated Morgan at the scene until emergency medical services could arrive.
