INDIANAPOLIS — The state's auditing agency is demanding the former extracurricular treasurer at Michigan City's Barker Middle School repay $10,406.08 in stolen funds and investigation costs.

Amanda Day, of Michigan City, was convicted in March of Level 6 felony theft due to her failure to deposit school funds from athletic event ticket sales, concessions, field trips, fundraisers, yearbook sales, textbook rental and physical education uniforms, according to state records.

She was sentenced to 18 months in prison, with all but one day suspended to probation, and ordered to pay $2,773 in restitution to the middle school, court records show.

State records indicate that restitution total was based on the school's estimated losses of $7,182.84 during Day's tenure as extracurricular treasurer, between October 2015 and May 2016, minus $4,409.84 paid to the school under an insurance policy.

However, a comprehensive audit recently completed by the State Board of Accounts (SBOA) determined Day actually was responsible for $6,291.34 in missing money.
