In kindergarten, Gupta thought middle names were the same as nicknames, so one day when her classmates revealed their middle names to each other, she said, “Butterfly.” Like her childhood nickname, she has been fluttering around the entertainment industry for several years now without a net in sight.

“Five or 10 years ago, I thought my life was a mess,” she admitted. “Nothing seemed to fly right.”
