Authorities are searching the Lake Michigan shoreline for a Metro Detroit-native man who vanished during a kayaking trip last weekend.
According to South Bend Indiana police, 23-year-old Jacob Sandy was last seen at around 10 a.m. Saturday, as he was headed out to to kayak on Lake Michigan. He did not return home.
While his exact destination was unknown, police in Porter, Indiana told The Northwest Indiana Times that Sandy's Light Blue PT Cruiser, which has a Michigan license plate, was later found in a parking lot near Porter Beach.
Upon further investigation, surveillance video from a camera outside the bathrooms at Indiana Dune's Porter Beach, just west of Michigan City, showed Sandy walking in front of a Porter police cruiser Saturday afternoon; and that car's dashboard camera showed him taking his kayak into the water.
His brother Paul Sandy said Jacob is from Birmingham, Michigan, and had been living in Indiana for about eight months before his disappearance.
